It’s almost that time! Peach time!
Great fond memories of peach time at Grandma and Granddaddy’s. Ya’ll remember my cousins, sister and I, all stayed with my Grandma during the summer days while our parents worked. Since my Grandfather had a green thumb, we not only had wonderful vegetable garden to find our lunch in, we also had an abundance of blueberries (blueberry buckle anyone?), apples for Fall apple dumplings and of course Summertime Peaches!
Has anyone used one of those old-fashioned ice cream makers? I remember it was a teal blue bucket and you knew you were in for a treat when you saw that come out of the house with Grandma. You know, the one that you have to use rock salt to keep it super cold, while you turned and turned, AND turned the crank? I’m sure we did other fruit ice cream, but what I remember, is the peach ice cream. How many times did we stop to see if it was ready?...and it was not! But oh, my, when it was ready it was the most delicious thing you have ever tasted.
I tell you the kids these days have it easy. Plug in the ice cream maker and wait. What’s the fun in that? HAHA!
I write all of this to tell you that, we are fortunate enough to have partnered with the Georgia Peach Truck and they will be offering their delicious peaches at our Farm on Tuesday June 23rd and will return in July for a second offering. You have options to purchase organic peaches as well as pecans…. would be delicious together in a peach cobbler….my mouth is watering as we speak! Might be a good project for your kiddos to do ice cream the old-fashioned way. 😊
